About Pinhead Map Icons

Pinhead is a public domain (CC0) library of map icons by Quincy Morgan, designed first for cartography: every symbol stays legible at 15×15 pixels as a marker or point of interest. The set was seeded from public domain sets including Temaki, Maki, the NPMap Symbol Library, OpenStreetMap Carto, Osmic and Health Icons, then redrawn to one standard. Each SVG is a single unstyled path on a 0 0 15 15 viewBox, so fill and halo come from your map style. Coverage is wide and specific, with long descriptive names such as a-frame-tent, boat-on-trailer, disc-golf-basket, deer-with-antlers and crosswalk-markings-lines-paired, plus US state shapes. Pinhead is used by the iD OpenStreetMap editor, Ultra and OpenTrailMap, and it is bundled for QGIS. On npm, @waysidemapping/pinhead ships the SVGs with JSON metadata and @waysidemapping/pinhead-font ships an icon font with CSS classes. Some icons are marked sensitive in the metadata.
